Office Move Planning
Office Move Do’s and Don’ts
Planning an office move or furniture reconfiguration in Denver? These are the mistakes we see most often, and what to do instead. MORE, Inc. has been installing and relocating office furniture across the Front Range since 1990.
Before the move
- DOBook your installer 6–8 weeks out, and earlier for full-floor or multi-floor moves.
- DOConfirm elevator reservations, loading dock times and certificate of insurance (COI) requirements with both buildings.
- DOWalk the new space with your installer before furniture is ordered or moved, so layouts, power and data line up.
- DON’TAssume your existing workstations will fit the new floor plan. Have them measured against the new layout first.
- DON’TWait until the last week to decide what’s moving, what’s going to storage and what’s being decommissioned.
Packing and protection
- DOWrap furniture and panels in moving blankets and plastic stretch wrap.
- DOLabel every crate and piece of furniture with its destination room or workstation number.
- DON’TLeave personal items, files or loose hardware in desk drawers and pedestals unless your installer has approved it.
- DOBag and label hardware from anything that has to be disassembled.
Moving day
- DOName one point person who can make decisions on site.
- DOHave IT disconnect and pack computers and monitors before the furniture crew arrives.
- DON’TSchedule the move during your busiest week. Evenings and weekends minimize downtime.
- DON’TLet staff move systems furniture themselves. Improperly moved panels and worksurfaces are a common cause of damage and injury.
After the move
- DODo a punch-list walkthrough with your installer before sign-off.
- DOStore surplus furniture instead of tossing it. Reusing it later is usually cheaper than buying new.
- DON’TSend usable furniture to the landfill. Resale, donation and recycling are options.
